Martin Grenon
Vice-Dean of Research of the Faculty of Science and Engineering
Biography
Dr. Martin Grenon is currently Vice Dean of Research. He has over 20 years' experience in mining engineering and rock mechanics. Dr. Grenon's research focuses on the characterization of rock masses for mining applications. He has worked on slope stability in open-pit mines at the design, operation and closure stages; the impact of geological and geotechnical properties of the rock mass on seismic responses associated with mining activities in deep underground mines; and the impact of permafrost conditions on the stability of underground mining excavations. Dr. Grenon has been an active member of the Rock Mechanics Society of the Canadian Institute of Mining (CIM), serving as president from 2015 to 2017. He was also president of the Canadian Rock Mechanics Association (CARMA) from 2015 to 2017. He has been Editor-in-Chief of the CIM Journal since 2014 and Associate Editor of the Canadian Geotechnical Journal since 2017. He is currently Vice President North America for the International Society of Rock Mechanics (ISRM).
